Tehran (IP) - Iran's Health Minister Saeed Namaki says Iran has conducted successful tests on animals in several advanced cases, even on monkeys, adding that the vaccine will undergo human trials in the next two or three weeks.

Iran PressIran News: Namaki believes that despite tough sanctions, the Islamic Republic of Iran has succeeded in developing drugs to combat coronavirus.

In response to Iran Press about Iran's progress in producing vaccines for the COVID-19, the health minister said: "We have achieved success in producing medicines even with small effect on the virus."

"Some medicines such as Remdesivir, Favipiravir, and other items, that had to be imported from other countries at very high prices, are produced in the country in a short time, and we are currently using them. In vaccines, at least 6 to 7 teams are working in knowledge-based companies in research institutes," said Namaki on Monday at the sixty-seventh session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO).

"All of Iran's pharmaceutical measures comply with international standards and protocols of the World Health Organization and the Food and Drug Administration," the official said.

"From now on, we will present the results to the World Health Organization, and we hope to take effective steps to develop the vaccine," he concluded.
