Tehran (IP) - The Special Aide to the Speaker of Iran's Parliament for International Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stated that the ongoing tension and presence of takfiri terrorists in Karabakh threaten peace and security.

Iran Press/Iran News: Amir-Abdollahian said in a tweet on Friday that the only solutions to the Karabakh conflict are respecting territorial integrity, ending escalation, and political talks.

The Iranian official also emphasized that safeguarding the Iranian borders' security is Tehran's redline.

The Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia disagree on the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The two countries' dispute over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, in which some foreign interventions have escalated tensions, began in 1988 and led to a military conflict in 1991.

The new round of clashes began last Sunday with both sides opening fire, and a number have been killed or wounded so far.

In a separate telephone conversation with the foreign ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia on Sunday evening, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called on the two sides to show restraint, establish a ceasefire, and put an immediate end to hostilities, and start the negotiations within the framework of international law.
