EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed in a telephone conversation the urgent ceasefire between the two neighboring countries of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Iran PressEurope: In this conversation, Josep Borrell stressed the full support of the European Union for the efforts of the Minsk Group to bring the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia to the negotiating table.

The Russian Foreign Minister also announced Moscow's readiness to host the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan to hold talks and resolve the recent tensions.

Clashes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh region resumed on Sunday morning, killing a number of people.

The conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region began in 1988 and escalated into a military conflict in 1992, as a result of which the Nagorno-Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan and seven neighboring cities were occupied by Armenian forces.

So far, many countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, have called for an immediate end to the conflict and the start of talks between Baku and Yerevan.
