The head of Iran's Department of Environment said that the revival of Urumia lake has kicked off since 2013 and it will be finished by the end of 2027.

Iran Press/Iran news: "650 local along with 72 international experts planned the unique project in the world. 13 top universities across Iran helped us in planning the project in various aspects like economic, social, agricultural, and geological areas," said Isa Kalantari on Sunday.

Kalantari noted that the planning process never stopped in the six months which was in 2013, and experts were in touch round-the-clock.

"The revival of Urumia lake seemed impossible to many people, but we have proved that it is possible," he added.

Kalantari said that although the sanctions caused problems for the country, 1000 billion Tomans were allocated for the project of Urmia lake.

He said that the grounds have been prepared so that the process of revival will not be interrupted by the end of the current government's term.
