Tehran (IP) - 2017-published documents by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) confirm the role of the US administration in masterminding a coup in August 1953 to topple the Iranian government of Mohamad Mosaddeq.

Iran PressIran news: The US-UK-cooked coup against the then-time government of Iran in August 1953 recalls one of the crucial points in the country's contemporary history.

Documents released years later about the coup show that both the United States and Britain were directly involved in the coup, with planned goals to dominate Iran.

Led by an American officer Kermit Roosevelt on August 18, 1953, the agents of the US' CIA and UK's intelligence service MI6 ran a bloody coup against the Iranian government of the then Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq, returning their desired ruler Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (the Shah) to power.

The coup began with the imposition of an oil embargo to deprive Iran of oil revenue, along with the creation of a gap among political, military, cultural, and religious figures, and instigation of rebellion through distributing money among the mobs and provoking them to make a riot in the country.

Now, with 67 years passed from the August 18 coup, US President Donald Trump hopes to return the past days through practicing political pressure and economic sanctions on Iran.

Yet, today's Iran has changed and the Iranian nation's integration and unity do not let the US repeat such subversive plots.     207/216
