US untrustworthy in fight against terrorism

An Afghan political commentator, Ahmad Mousavi Mobalegh, has said the US has not been honest in the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan.

Iran Press/ Asia: In an interview with IRIB World Service, Afghan political analyst, Ahmad Mousavi Mobalegh emphasized: "Currently  the physical war with terrorism in Afghanistan is being waged by the Afghan National Army, and the United States has no part in this war. All the equipment and weaponry are in hands of the US, but Afghani security forces are the ones who are actually fighting the terrorists."

Mousavi Mobalegh added: "Afghani forces have not had any military training by US forces and are being denied modern military hardware by the Americans. All the evidence suggests that US goal in Afghanistan is not to empower the Afghan security forces against various terrorist groups."

"The US and NATO despite Afghanistan's request have not provided the country with weapons and military equipment. Also the West is still increasing foreign forces in Afghanistan by using excuses about instability in the country," Mousavi Mobalegh concluded.

After 17 years, US and NATO have been unable to bring peace to Afghanistan, but also their military presence in Afghanistan is the main reason for increasing violence and killings.

US intelligence agencies warned that despite an increase in airstrikes carried out by US Forces in Afghanistan in 2017 which reached a record high, the Taliban have continued to make gains in the country.

Like NATO, US also under Donald Trump administration has tried to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table, but ramped up the bombing campaign in Afghanistan. However, according to US media Trump seeks to withdraw US military forces from Afghanistan prior to the 2020 American elections. 101/ 211 / 201
