President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with Armenia's deputy prime minister has stressed that Iran and Armenia can develop their relations despite illegal US sanctions.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking in a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan on Wednesday, president Hassan Rouhani said: “The people of Iran have had good historic and cultural relations with the people of Armenia.”

Commenting on energy and electricity as two important areas of cooperation between the two countries, President Rouhani said: “We can implement joint projects and plans in energy, electricity and transportation faster.”

According to President Rouhani's official website, he went on to refer to Aras River as a vital river for both countries with regards to the environment, saying, “Considering the fact that a large part of the population of Iran are using Aras as a source of drinking water and agriculture, its health is very important.”

In further comments, President Rouhani said: “We want the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to be connected to the Black Sea, and one of the ways to make this happen is by trilateral cooperation between Iran, Armenia and Georgia.”

The Iranian President referred to transportation, saying: "Economic relations can be expanded through banking relations and we can facilitate this exchange through use of national currencies." 101/216/211
