Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Gholam Hossein Dehqani

Tehran has submitted its complaint to the United Nations Security Council against Washington for its drone violating Iranian airspace, a senior Iranian diplomat has confirmed.

Iran Press/Europe: Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Gholam-Hossein Dehqani said that the complaint is against the US according to Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

In the complaint letter Iran has emphasized that in case of such acts in the future Tehran reserves the right to defend its maritime borders against aggressors, Dehqani told IRNA.

A US surveillance drone on 20 June was shot down by Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran says the drone has violated Iran's airspace.

Speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the anniversary of Sardasht chemical attack,  Dehqani noted that the American side claims the drone had not entered Iran's airspace, but the claim cannot be proved because the drone fell down in Iran's territorial waters after it was shot down.

Referring to Iran's lawsuit against unilateral US sanctions at The Hague, the official said, the court in a ruling has reprimanded Washington for sanctions, particularly on food and medicine.

The US has to remove barriers to Iran's financial activities with regards to purchase of medicines and medical equipment, he said, adding that Washington is exercising a maximum pressure policy on Iran.

Dehqani noted that Iran will continue to defend its legitimate rights in international courts of law at the Hague, Netherlands.
