A video appears to show Arizona Southwest Key staffers dragged, pushed and pulled migrant children.

Iran Press/America: The alleged child abuse and assault on minors happened in mid-September, the month before the federal government suspended operations at the Hacienda Del Sol Southwest Key facility in Youngtown.

A case regarding the alleged abuse of migrant children in a Southwest Key shelter will be referred to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review and to determine whether criminal charges will be filed, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, CNN reported.

The news comes after the Arizona Republic obtained surveillance videos through an open records request that show staffers pushing and dragging migrant children in a shelter operated by Southwest Key, the nation's largest provider of migrant children shelters.

The deaths of two migrant children in just over two weeks raised strong new doubts Wednesday about the ability of US border authorities to care for the thousands of minors arriving as part of a surge of families trying to enter the country.

An 8-year-old boy identified by Guatemalan officials as Felipe Gomez Alonzo died in US custody at a New Mexico hospital on Christmas Eve after suffering a cough, vomiting and fever, authorities said. The cause is under investigation, as is the death Dec. 8 of another Guatemalan child, 7-year-old Jakelin Caal.

The UN’s special rapporteur, who acts as a global watchdog for the treatment of migrants, said that he would demand a special inquiry into Jakelin’s death. 101/201
