Venezuela has arrested two high-ranking military officers over assassination plot against President Nicolas Maduro.

Venezuela’s chief prosecutor, Tarek Saab, said on Tuesday that a general and a colonel had been detained for their alleged involvement in an attempt to kill Maduro with two drones laden with explosives while he was addressing a military parade in the capital, Caracas, on August 4.

Maduro, who escaped the attack unharmed, blamed the opposition, which denied the allegation and accused the president of staging the attack to “irresponsibly and sweepingly” crack down on his opponents.

Recently,Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has survived an assassination attempt with explosive carrying drones.

Venezuelan police have so far arrested a number of suspects whom they accuse of involvement with support from Colombia and from unidentified figures in the US.

Both the US and Colombia denied the accusation.

After the plot,Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has said that he will permit FBI agents to provide help in the investigation into the recent assassination attempt against him.

The Venezuelan president often claims that the US, which has imposed sanctions against officials in his government, is orchestrating attempts to topple him as part of a wider offensive against Latin American leaders defying the US hegemony.
