The 33rd edition of the Annual National Quran Recitation Competition organized by Centre for Islamic Studies of the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUS) is taking place in Gombe, Nigeria.

Iran PressAfrica: The 33rd edition of the Annual National Quran Recitation Competition organized by Centre for Islamic Studies of the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUS) has opened at the weekend in Gombe, Daily Trust reported.

The event, which is holding in Gombe for the first time, was declared open by Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.

33rd edition of the Annual National Quran Recitation Competition opens in Nigeria 

Speaking Governor Dankwambo said the competition will foster unity and understanding among Muslim faithful across the country.

The governor also called on the Muslim youths to seek both western and Islamic knowledge in order to contribute their quota toward the development of the country.

The governor urged the organisers and participants to preach peace and religious tolerance, especially as the nation approach the 2019 elections.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor of UDUS, Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, said 33 states and the FCT, Abuja were participating in six categories of the competition.He added that over the years the annual Quran recitation competition has provided a platform for uniting the Muslim Ummah across the country.

One of these competitions is 2018 Nigerian Qur'an Competition, which consisted of 60 Hizb and Tafseer held inTaraba State Participant on 13 December 2018.

He stressed the importance of memorisation and recitation of the Holy Quran and urged people to strive hard in seeking Quranic education.

The vice chancellor said the winners in both male and female categories will represent the country at the international Quran recitation competition  in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, represented by Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, said the importance of studying the Holy Quran could not be overemphasised, he therefore commended UDUS and Gombe State Government for organising the event.103/209
